Surface Design Study: Research and Design
I found inspiration in the surface designs scattered throughout my home and aimed to capture their organic shapes. Initially, I considered a floral design, but it felt a bit generic and lacking in personal touch. To add more personality to my work, I decided to incorporate birds, which added an intriguing element to the design.
Originally, I planned to use a blue and colder pink colour palette. However, after discussing with my peers, we concluded that a warmer colour scheme would better suit the overall vibe of the design.

| Sketches and Trace of Sketch in Rhino |
For the initial sketch, I used Procreate before bringing the image into Rhino; and while filling in the shapes with the hatch command, I encountered several challenges due to intersecting lines and gaps between shapes. This required me to meticulously check and refine all the lines to ensure everything aligned properly.
The gaps arose because I had traced my sketch to preserve the organic feel, opting for a more natural look over the precision of pre-made shapes, which ultimately created some frustration and imprecision.
My main inspirations were the energy and feeling of the patterns, the floral motifs, cute aesthetic. and a softer pastel colour palette. I envision this surface design being used for items like curtains or fabric, a sentiment echoed by my group during our discussion.
